Acadia National Park is loaded with hiking trails. Today we’ll be hiking the Bubble Rock trail.
It’s just a little over a mile long loop to see the rock and get back to the van, so nothing too strenuous.
Looking at the clouds, it might rain. We want to find the quickest, shortest path to the rock and see it before we’re left stranded soaked.
Looking at the map at the trailhead, it appears we need to go the South Bubble route.
Trees here are so different from Washington… so dense and so barren. 🌳🌳🌳
The trail is not too bad. There is a clear path, with nice stepping stones.
It’s not long before we make it to first trail marker.
Views from where we stand are stunning.
Oh look! Waaaay down there is the van!
Bubble Rock
Hiking a little further brings us to the Bubble Rock.
How does such a big rock stay balanced so well?
Oh yes, people like Tommy adding just enough support.
He can’t resist trying to push it over. No matter how much force he uses, it doesn’t budge.
Even with the clouds, we’re very impressed with the view Bubble Rock provides.
We can’t help stand in admiration.
One of our only glimpses of wildlife…. besides squirrels.
Before heading down, we take a few moments to enjoy the scenery.
… and each other!
We try our best to get a photo of us jumping at the same time while still on top.
Pretty close here….
Why can’t we jump in unison?
Well….. we tried. 😜
While on top, we see a van pull in and drop off a group of people looking like they’re ready to climb the face of this mountain.
Not adhering to the trail signs, we take a look over the ledge to catch a view of the group below.
Look closely and you will see they are down there stretching and preparing for their rock climb.
Heading Back Down
Our descent is actually a lot steeper and a little more difficult than the way up.
Here’s a handle meant to help us complete our climb.
We are having to squeeze between rocks to make our way down….
It’s really not as bad as it looks and we finally make it.
We follow the trail sign leading us back to our car…
After the steep descent, it’s quiet nice to be on level ground again!
We easily make back to the van before any rain.
Another successful hike!
