The City of Savannah

Cobblestone squares and shaded oaks, today we’re in Savannah, Georgia!

Established in 1733, Savannah is the oldest city in the Georgia.

Cruising into Georgia…

Keeping with Georgia spirit, we first stop for a peach cider slushy and some boiled peanuts!

YUM!

Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room

To kick off our day we hit up Mrs. Wilkes!

This place is only open 3 hours a day for lunch… and man is it busy!
The line stretches all the way down the block!

After about an hour, we’re seated… and boy does it look delicious!

With our bellies filled to the brim, we head out to walk off some of what we ate!

Shaded Oaks & Cobble Squares

Savannah is beautiful…

Spanish moss hangs from the trees.
(Side note: it’s not moss… and it’s not from Spain)

The city is filled with historic squares and parks

There is so much history here, we cannot even begin to capture it all.

Lights, Camera, Action!

If you don’t know, the bench scene in Forrest Gump take place in Savannah.
… and here it is!

The bench has since been moved to a museum, but you can recognize the monument in the background.

Just across the street from the bench we stumble on an active movie set!

Not sure what movie it is, nor did we see anyone we recognize.

Anyone know any movies being filmed in Savannah?

Down To The River

Continuing along, we start heading towards River Street.

Along the way, we find Bryan street!

As well as Savannah’s gold City Hall Dome!

Once down at the river, we find a river boat…

WWII memorial…

And a maritime monument!

Of course, the thing that pertains the most to us is the candy shop!!!

Savannah’s Candy Kitchen

Our primary target? Their store made Salt Water Taffy!!!

You see this tin right here?

Fill this baby up at one flat price!

…. I think when the tin starts to bend from the loaded amount of taffy… that baby’s full.

Weighing it out, we crammed two and a half pounds of candy into that tin… Job well done!

Back to the Van!

Things in Savannah are sometimes a little… upside down.

Regardless, it’s lovely place to wander. The air feels just a little fresher.

As the sun sets we reach the van.

Before heading out of the city, we have one more stop for a light dinner.

Quick Pick of Ribs

Having visited Savannah before, Tommy’s developed a favorite spot for some BBQ.

The real treasure here is the sauce…

The name makes quite a claim… but it sure is tasty!
