Antelope Slot Canyon Tour

Located on the upper Antelope Canyon, we are about to embark on an adventure through one of the most visited slot canyons in the Southwest.

Clouds have filled the sky, but we are hoping they hold their tears for us to enjoy this tour through the Navajo territory.

After purchasing our tickets, we are awaiting our departure for the Antelope Canyon.

Since we are going to be driving through some very thick sand for about 2 miles, we get to take a ride on a special covered vehicle such as this…

The wait is not too long before they board us all up and we hit the road.

After driving only a short 10 mins, we can see the large crack in the canyon that we will enter through.

We are herded out of the truck….

…our tour has officially begun.

It may be cold and sprinkling, but we are both pretty excited for this excursion!

The guide tells us the rainfall earlier makes the canyon especially beautiful.

Inside the Canyon

Greetings from the canyon include towering sandstone walls welcoming you through their narrow pathways.

With some tips from our guide, we are able to pull the color from the canyon as we walk through.

Good thing we are not claustrophobic. The walls are moving in quite quickly!

Although, there are still portions you can stretch out and soak up the beauty!

It may be sprinkling outside, but inside these canyons, we are able to see the sunlight protrude through and give us a glimpse of light.

Tommy can’t help but bask in the beauty of the canyon as we walk through!

Before long, we approach what seems to be bear attempting to escape the deep canyon into the light.

There is an ear!

a tidal wave!

and a former president!! (Abe Lincoln’s bearded chin)

Logs adorn the canyon walls from the raised water levels during the rush of the flash floods.

Looking closely at the walls, we can see the texture the sand has provided while the waters are raging through the canyon.

It is truly amazing what kind of patterns sand can create on stone!

This canyon is so beautiful…

…. why not strike a pose?

We can’t forget Scoops!!!!

The Return Trek

As we approach the other side of the canyon, we are greeted with sunshine and delight!

The rain has ceased and has provided us with blue skies scattered with fluffy clouds. Hope it lasts!!!

For this tour, the way out is the same way we came in. Before we head back through, we can’t help but enjoy the beauty of the canyon from the far side.

The tour guide is pretty strict about us remaining with the group, so we must continue on quickly!

As we look straight up, we can see the light provided through the cracks of the towering canyon walls.

Looking at the midportion of the wall you see…… bird feces….

Downward we can see more left over sand and pieces of wood from the last flash flood that swept through.

So there it is folks! The fantastic, one of a kind Antelope Slot Canyon. Can’t wait to see what more the Grand Canyon has to offer!

Driving away from the canyon, we have to wait for these guys to moooove out of our way.
