Everyone’s heard of Niagara Fall, which is why we’re making it a stop on our road trip! It’s the first time we’ve ever been here and today we’re checking out the American Side!
The Rapids
We start off parking above the falls… at the rApIdS! And they’re Crazy!!
It’s an easy walk right along the shore
Careful not to fall!
Making our way onto Goat Island, we’re ready to see what these falls are all about!
Goat Island
And… Welcome to Niagara Falls!!! … A little smaller than we imagined.
Of course we’re just kidding!
The View of Bridal Fall from Goat Island is quite mesmerizing.
Atop the falls on Goat Island is a tribute to one of the great masters of science and electricity, Nikola Tesla.
Swinging around to the other side of the island we hope to get a nice vantage of the Horseshoe Fall… of course…
We can’t be bothered with snow removal in the park.
We’ll just have to settle for a view from here
There’s a reason why Niagara Falls is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world! There’s quite a volume of water flowing over it!
Various objects, animals, and people have gone over the falls, the first person being Annie Edison Taylor who went over in a barrel… she survived it. Others haven’t been so lucky.
Here’s a full list of what’s gone over the falls!
Maid Of The Mist
Leaving Goat Island, we make our way to the other end of the falls…
And buy out tickets for the Maid of The Mist!
What started as a transportation service across the Niagara River, this now tourist ship carries passengers straight into the onslaught of Horseshoe fall.
The trip begins about how we expect… nice an calm, with a light mist filling the air.
Watching the falls from the river is quite an experience
The wooden path here is the Cave of The Winds. Visitors can buy tickets to walk and stand beneath the falls.
I’m not sure how well you read the List of Objects that have gone over Niagara Falls, but in quite a few years ago a man walking the Cave of The Winds was struck by a salmon being swept over the falls!!
He in fact caught the salmon in his hands and was even able to take it home as a trophy!
The Canadians even have their own boat, Hornblower!
Continuing forward, we see the mist dissipating at the base of the fall.
Time to suit up!
One thing they don’t tell you…
Is that the mist isn’t really a mist…
But somehow… we make it.
For anyone looking to experience the full power of the falls (without going over in a barrel), this is a must!
Observation Tower
Included in the Maid of The Mist ticket is access to a view deck with a fairly good vantage of the falls.
Thanks for sailing with us!!
