Jordan – The Dead Sea

So we’re here at the Dead Sea!

With the Dead Sea’s surface at 1,412 ft  below sea level, this is the lowest point on earth.

The Dead Sea is 42 miles long, and 11 miles wide (at it’s widest point).

It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley and it’s main tributary is the Jordan River.

It’s water level has been quickly declining (almost a meter each year), due to reduced input from the Jordan River. There is currently a plan to pump water from the Red Sea (at a higher elevation) into the Dead Sea to restore it’s level.

Today we’re visiting the Crowne Plaza Spa and Resort, located directly on the sea with a private beach.

Our primary goal is to just enjoy ourselves and relax.

The resort has a lovely pool!

and a lot of space to just wander…

and enjoy the view.

We grab some food at the resorts buffet, Ambrosia

…then head down to the private beach.

The Dead Sea is one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water, 9.6 times saltier than the ocean.

The high salt content increases buoyancy, making it easy to float on it’s surface 😉

The sediment contains many minerals which are known worldwide for their therapeutic and health benefits.

Mud and mirrors are provided by the resort, free of charge!

So why not give it a shot!?

… or get carried away and go all out…

Anyway, check out our Dead Sea Resort Gallery!
We’re going to keep relaxing 🙂

Where ever you are, we hope you can do the same!
